Directions for Quilt Project

My Friends’ Heritage Quilt Square Project

1. Decorate your quilt squares with any type of medium you choose. Crayons, fabric markers, or fabric paints are all excellent choices. You can find these items at the fabric store or Micheals.

2. You will need a half yard of fabric, and a yard of ribbon which coordinates with the fabric. The fabric will be the border/trim for your quilt square. When picking fabric, for example, if you are from China you may choose to get a silky fabric with an Asian design. If you are doing Ireland, you might want to get a plaid patterned fabric.

3. Have mom or dad cut a square of fabric that is twelve inches by twelve inches from the fabric you purchased. This is the backing for the fabric square. Next, cut two rectangle pieces that measure 3“x12,“and then cut two rectangle pieces that measure 3X11“. The rectangle pieces are the borders for your quilt square.

4. If your parents know how to sew, they may sew the fabric square together. If you need help please bring your pieces to school and I will help you. Make ½“ seams when sewing all the pieces together. Cut the yard of ribbon in four equal parts (9inches a piece). When the sewing is completed, sew the ribbon onto the vertices or corners of the finished quilt. This will help us attach all the student quilt squares together with two bows on each corner.

5. The finished square needs to be a finished 12“x12“ square.
